![]() ![]() ![]() This is the first game that I've played that I literally did not look down at the screen from beginning to end of arcade mode, except to look at the outcome of matches when I heard a round end, and I still beat the game simply by blindly mashing buttons.And this is with controls that aren't very responsive, mind you. Windy X Windham is a fighting game that plays so horribly, that upon winning several rounds without the slightest bit of difficulty, I refused to look at the screen as I played.And I still won. Windy X Windam.I believe that must be the brand name of a vacuum cleaner in Japan because this game sucks. If you like unique music games, definitely check this game out.Just don't create a musical masterpiece and expect to have it forever. If it had a save feature, my score would go way up.But it's such an essential and obvious feature to have that I couldn't help but feel like I had to dock the score pretty heavily. It kind of boggles my mind that a save feature was never implemented into this game so that you could share your musical creations with others.Instead it's fun while it lasts, but once you realize that none of the work that you're putting into constructing a song is going to last beyond when you turn the system off, it kind of derails your creativity and makes it hard to feel motivated to keep coming back. On one hand, I really like the concept here and creating music with the plankton is pretty fun.The giant downside, of course, is the lack of any ability to save. Keep in mind that you can collect Boosters from Toon Chests (these are gained every 10 levels) and Star Chests (which become unlockable after collecting 20 stars for completing stages).Electroplankton is hard to score. You should only rely on your pre-set Boosters when you have a few moves left and not a lot of match options in play that can help you clear a stage. The Bomb and Disco Ball also come collectible as Boosters. All of the game’s Boosters are helpful in their own way – the Boxing Glove removes everything in a row, the Hammer removes any cube/obstacle, the Anvil removes everything in a column, and the Dice shuffles a collection of selectable cubes.Eventually, you’ll gain access to Boosters – these items can be equipped before your next stage playthrough and used during that play session. Match five cubes to create a Rocket, match seven cubes to create a Bomb, and match nine cubes create a Disco Ball. Toon Blast allows you to create big matches that birth the game’s aforementioned powerups.Make it a Habit of Creating Special Puzzle Pieces and Use Boosters When Things Get a Bit Dicey But using any of these items in conjunction with one other creates huge matches that heightens your final score and clears out plenty of troublesome obstacles!Ģ. Activating any of these powerups by themselves is a viable move to make. This method usually helps you create the Toon Blast’s powerup pieces, such as the Rocket, Bomb, or Disco Ball. To make quick work of those obstacles and rack up an amazing score, try making cube matches that include more than three pieces. Sometimes you won’t get a nice set of cubes to work with on the lowest level since those obstacles may take up the most space in that area. Over time, you’ll find yourself dealing with tougher situations where you’ll have to figure out how to clear out a huge number of obstacles.Don’t just tap on the first available match you see – peruse the very bottom of these stage setups so you can make matches and cause future cube matches to fall into position as higher placed cubes come down. During those stages where there’s a bunch of cubes littering the bottom of the screen, it’s best if you work from that position to get things rolling. These opening stages are meant to give you an overview of everything you’ll eventually confront during the game’s follow-up chapters – some of the elements you’ll encounter even come as a tough combo deal that you’ll need to clear off the screen. ![]() ![]() During the opening chapter of Toon Blast, you’ll make your way through all the available puzzle objective types. ![]()
